Japan’s Koyasan University Confers Honorary Doctorate On Dr. Achyuta Samanta

Japan’s prestigious Koyasan University formally conferred an honorary doctorate on KIIT & KSS Founder Dr. Achyuta Samanta during his much-awaited visit to the campus on July 24. Dr. Samanta is only the second Indian to get this prestigious doctorate from more than 100-year-old Koyasan University after Devendra Fadnavis, the then Chief Minister of Maharashtra.


Soeda Ryusho, President, Koyasan University awarded the prestigious Degree in the presence of Nikhilesh Giri, Consul General of India, Osaka-Kobe, and other university dignitaries. Remarkably, this is Dr. Samanta’s 58th Honorary Doctorate.

In his speech Soeda Ryusho said, in recognition and gratitude for his selfless and tireless contribution to humanity, Koyasan University has unanimously resolved to confer the Honorary Doctorate upon Dr. Samanta.


In his acceptance speech, Dr. Samanta said, “This is such a prestigious university whose history goes back more than 100 years back. They have awarded it to me in recognition of my education and social services work”.


Koyasan University, situated in Mount Kōya, Wakayama Prefecture, Japan, is a distinguished private institution with a rich heritage. Originally founded in 1886 as a monastic school for Shingon Buddhist monks, it was formally chartered as a university in 1926. With over 134 years of history, Koyasan University is dedicated to studying and applying the profound wisdom of Shingon Buddhism to contemporary society. Its Esoteric Studies Program is designed to train individuals in utilizing the insights of Esoteric Buddhism in modern contexts, welcoming students from all backgrounds, not just Buddhist priests.
