Marking 'Japan Month': A Celebration to Enhance Indo-Japanese Ties

Delhi, September 2, 2024

September-October 2024 has been designated as 'Japan Month' with the objective of advancing bilateral relations between India and Japan across multiple areas, including politics, security, economics and culture. Many events focusing on trade, investment, culture, people-to-people exchanges and other fields including seminars, symposia, exhibitions, etc., are being organized.

The Embassy extended invitations to companies and organizations to participate in Japan Month. More than 60 activities were registered and planned during Japan Month.

On August 30, Ambassador Hiroshi SUZUKI hosted the Japan Month Opening Reception at his residence, officially kicking off a two-month celebration dedicated to strengthening the bonds between Japan and India. The evening was a gathering of key figures from Japan Month event organizers, the Indian government, the business community, and cultural organizations, all united in their commitment to enhancing our bilateral relations.

Japan Month, which spans September and October, will showcase a rich array of activities—from the vibrant cultural showcase ‘Mela! Mela! Anime Japan!!’ to impactful business forums and insightful educational seminars. These events are not only opportunities to foster mutual understanding and explore new business ventures but also a celebration of the deep cultural ties that connect our two nations.

The chief guest of the evening Ambassador H.K. Singh (former India’s envoy to Japan) congratulated Ambassador Suzuki on taking this initiative to organise a series of special events designed to enhance bilateral relations, focusing in particular on the promotion of trade, investment, culture and people-to-people exchanges. He mentioned, “Significant relationships like ours are based primarily on shared values, strategic trust, public understanding, and the pursuit of mutual interest. India and Japan are ancient and connected Asian civilisations, democracies committed to the rule of law, and complimentary free market economies. They also stand out as two nations in Asia with the absence of any historical constraints to their relations. And they are geographic bookends along the outer arc of the Eurasian rimland, brought together by the confluence of oceans”.

Japan Month is not only a platform to promote mutual understanding and explore new business opportunities but also a celebration of the profound cultural ties that link Japan and India. By bringing together diverse elements of both societies, this initiative aims to reinforce and expand the enduring partnership between the two nations.
